1. Gender Equality Officer

Program: Women and Gender Affairs

Project: Safer + Stronger COVID-19 Emergency

Job Location: Greater Toronto Area, Ontario

Job type: Full-time Contract; Remote Work

Contract length: 4 months

No. of positions: One (1)

Compensation: $22.00 per hour; 40hrs per week

Reports to: Project Lead / Head of Secretariat

The Gender Equality Officer will work within the Secretariat as part of the project implementation team while liaising with the Women and Gender Affairs Program Director, Field Support Social Workers, Project Consultants as well as other internal and external stakeholders to create a comprehensive action plan, project activities and timeframes for the project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to apply strategic thinking to develop and implement initiatives that promote gender equality
  • Engage with stakeholders across the organisation to build capacity and embed best practice in gender equality.
  • Contribute to the development of gender equality materials
  • Undertake gender training for staff relating to both attitudes, behavior and programmatic implementation
  • Provide support, training and technical assistance to all stakeholders on gender and related topics including carrying out gender analysis and gender related assessments, developing and monitoring gender sensitive indicators
  • Participate in gender-related events and stay updated about gender related development
  • Monitor performance against objectives and manage project risks and issues.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in the broad fields relevant to Gender Equality including Women’s Studies, Social Work, Social Sciences and Psychology
  • In-depth knowledge of gender theories and concepts
  • Technical understanding of gender mainstreaming and GBV concepts
  • Knowledge of best practice in gender equality programming, including mainstreaming tools and guidelines
  • Significant experience and skills in facilitating training on gender equality is preferred
  • Have a strategy to challenge participants’ resistance and prejudices regarding gender issues
  • Proven skills in providing capacity building and staff support
  • Experience in the development and implementation of projects within designated timeframes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to educate and advocate on social disadvantage and other diversity issues.
  • Competency in computer applications including Office 365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience in use of Microsoft Project and Microsoft Teams is an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills capable of maintaining strong relationships
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Documentation management and ability to use project management tools
  • Attention to details even under pressure
  • Time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Pro-active and can-do attitude
  • Dynamic and energetic

2. Finance Officer

The Finance Officer will work within the Secretariat as part of the project implementation team while liaising with the Women and Gender Affairs Program Director, Field Support Social Workers, Project Consultants as well as other internal and external stakeholders.

This position requires someone with high professional approach, use of tact, superior organizational skills, ability to work with minimal error under pressure, good judgment, initiative, flexibility, ability to deal in an effective and cooperative manner with a variety of people.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain books of accounts
  • Bank Reconciliation
  • Generating periodic financial reports for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Processing expense reimbursements
  • Assist in grant project proposal budgeting
  • Analyzing and recommending improvements to financial processes and procedures
  • Determine and establish office procedures and routines
  • Maintaining financial files, records, and historical data
  • Filing and organizing records
  • Perform other administrative duties as required

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in accounting, finance or related field of study
  • Minimum 2 years experience in accounting and finance profession is preferred.
  • Extensive Intuit QuickBooks experience (bank reconciliation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries and financial reports)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Teams and Office 365 is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel skills (e.g. VLOOKUP, PIVOT Tables, Sum Formula)
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and timelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy.

3. Communications Officer

The Communications Officer within the Secretariat and will work closely with project team to carry out activities designed to increase the visibility and impact of the project.

The Communications Officer will also be responsible for writing, creating and distributing a broad range of organizational communications, both internal and external, to promote the brand, mission and values of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with website and graphic design contractors to ensure projects and events communication tasks are executed in a timely and professional manner.
  • Develop and maintain a strong database of contacts for communications & reports distribution using MailChimp mailing list manager
  • Regularly review and update content on our website (publications, press releases, project descriptions, discussion forum topics etc.)
  • Manage the periodic e-newsletter
  • Collect and circulate website metrics
  • Maintain our social media accounts.
  • Help format and maintain consistency in promotional materials, handouts for meetings, PowerPoint presentations, project reports etc.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in communications, graphic design, new media production or related field of study
  • Experience in using MailChimp e-newsletter & Website technologies like Joomla & WordPress CMS, HTML, CSS, PHP and Dreamweaver is preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of Adobe Suite including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop & Premiere Pro is an asset.
  • Computer skills include Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, web-search skills
  • High level of "internet literacy" and knowledge of social media required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to plan workflow, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines and follow through.
  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Attention to detail
